Being a teacher is a complex and challenging profession. In addition to having a deep understanding of the subject matter they teach; educators must also possess the skills to manage their classrooms effectively. This involves creating an environment conducive to learning while being aware of each student's diverse personalities and learning styles. A Successful teacher takes the time to understand their students' unique characteristics, strengths, and weaknesses, enabling them to tailor their teaching methods to meet individual needs. This dual responsibility of mastering both the curriculum and the classroom dynamics is what makes teaching both demanding and rewarding.

With over 3 years of experience in teaching school, I've gained valuable insights into the unique challenges that come with educating younger children. In elementary education, the approach often needs to be more nurturing and supportive, as young learners require patience and gentle guidance to grasp fundamental concepts. This stage is critical for building a strong foundation in their educational journey.

Transitioning to high school education presents its own set of challenges. At this level, teachers must adapt their methods to address the growing independence and complexity of the subjects taught. Educators need to maintain a balance between firmness and understanding. While high school students may be more mature, they still require clear guidelines and structure. Establishing a set of consistent rules is crucial, as these parameters help create an orderly environment conducive to learning.

In addition, effective teaching in high school demands a deeper mastery of the subject matter. Educators must deliver the subject matter and inspire students to critically engage with it. It is essential to foster a classroom atmosphere where teachers feel respected and valued, and where students can learn the importance of discipline and good manners.

As educators, we are not only responsible for imparting knowledge; we are also role models. Our behavior and attitudes influence students significantly. By modeling positive behavior and upholding our expectations, we guide students in understanding their responsibilities and social interactions, ultimately shaping their character as well as their academic abilities.

Tips for Teachers on How to Be Respected by Students

One of the challenges teachers face is when students do not show respect during lessons. Not only does this behavior disrupt learning, but it also has a negative impact on other students who want to listen. It can be very difficult to manage a class in this kind of situation. Therefore, we will discuss tips that teachers can use to gain respect from their students and create a fun and organized classroom environment.
  • Learning Agreement Creation
When establishing classroom rules and sanctions, it's essential to involve students in the process. By collaboratively creating these guidelines, students will feel a sense of ownership and commitment to them. This involvement fosters a sense of responsibility and accountability, making them less inclined to break the rules.

During the discussion, educators can encourage students to express their thoughts on what behaviors they believe are important for a positive learning environment. This not only allows students to voice their opinions but also helps them understand the rationale behind certain rules.

Once the rules are collectively established, it's equally important to outline the consequences for violations. Involving students in this aspect can lead to more thoughtful and fair sanctions, reinforcing their belief that the rules are a product of group consensus rather than top-down imposition.
  •  Plan Varied Learning Methods
Teachers should anticipate the diverse learning preferences of their students by employing various teaching methods. For instance, students in class A may prefer collaborative discussions, while those in class B might benefit more from simulation techniques to enhance their understanding.
Before each lesson, it's essential to plan a variety of teaching approaches. Utilizing multiple learning methods not only makes the class more enjoyable but also leads to happier students who are more engaged and attentive during lessons.

  • Non-verbal reminders
Nonverbal reminders are very important when in the classroom while learning with students making noise and commotion, there are times when teachers give warnings to students. Instead of shouting in front of students, it is better to use nonverbal gestures.  For example, you can put your index finger in front of your mouth to give the code “don't make noise”. It could also be that when someone is noisy, stare at the student who is making a noise until he finally realizes that he is being noticed and shuts up on his own.

  • Focusing on the Positive Aspects of Students
In educational settings, it is not uncommon for educators to prioritize negative behavior while overlooking the positive contributions of students. It is essential to observe and acknowledge instances of positive behavior, even in students who exhibit disobedience. For instance, while a student may occasionally disrupt the class by making noise, they might simultaneously demonstrate commendable diligence in completing assignments or actively participate by raising their hand to ask insightful questions.

Incorporating praise for these positive behaviors can significantly enhance a student's motivation and engagement. Recognizing and appreciating even minor positive actions fosters an environment in which students feel valued, which, in turn, encourages them to maintain and improve their good behaviors.
  • Understanding the unique needs of students
Given that every student has a different character, students who are disobedient in class may have a special condition. They could be hyperactive students! For students like this, it is very difficult to sit down, be quiet, and pay attention to the teacher in front of the class. They need something to do to channel their energy. Since they can only sit in class, they will feel bored and end up making trouble.
Understanding the unique needs of students with hyperactive conditions is essential for effective classroom management. To overcome this challenge, it is important to implement learning strategies that incorporate active engagement. This can include organizing educational games, facilitating discussions, or conducting role-playing activities. By using these methods, the energy of hyperactive students can be channeled positively, thus minimizing disruptive behavior in the classroom.

  • It is essential to develop the skill of actively listening to students.
Occasionally engaging in personal conversations with students who exhibit disobedient behavior can be beneficial. It is possible that these individuals are experiencing internal challenges, such as family issues or social conflicts, which hinder their ability to concentrate in the classroom and lead to attention-seeking behavior manifested through disobedience. By taking the time to listen to the students' narratives, educators can gain a deeper understanding of their circumstances.

Moreover, once students have the opportunity to share their experiences, they may feel a greater sense of connection with the teacher, who demonstrates a willingness to listen and empathize. This mutual respect can foster a classroom environment where students are more inclined to behave appropriately and minimize disruptive conduct, ultimately leading to improved obedience.

  • Collaboration with Student Parents
To encourage student compliance in the classroom, it is important to establish effective coordination with parents. Holding regular meetings allows parents to stay informed about their child's academic progress and overall development. This collaboration should cover various aspects, including the student's behavior at home, social relationships, and personal habits.

  • Stay Patients
Even when you feel exhausted from dealing with disobedient students in the classroom, it is essential for teachers to remain patient. By maintaining your patience, you'll be better equipped to handle various student attitudes and keep a calm demeanor in challenging situations.

Here are some tips to help you manage disobedient students in the classroom. I hope these suggestions assist you in staying composed while addressing their behavior.
